ART MOVEMENTS: ART NOUVEAU PART 2

For this study, I wanted to look closer at Struzan’s dramatization of hair. This led me back to… Art Nouveau! Looking Art Nouveau is known for patterns of s-curves, and wavy/windy/graphic hair. While there are classic examples from Mucha, I wanted to focus on examples from Jan Toorop. Below are a few examples from Jan that graphically “flatten” the hair into more 2D forms of wavy hair:

Struzan is known for tracing and staying true to an original photograph’s likeness. But for hair, he sometimes redraws or exaggerates the hair to give it Art Nouveau dramatization. Below are examples from Drew Struzan with some before and afters:
