Blocking: Volumes Enhancing Depth

Placing clouds, fog or smoke near camera for parallax can deepen the scene and emphasize the camera’s movement.

This shot features hanging atmos on the right and left of Saurmon as he falls. Both volumes are at different depths for variety.

Hugo example with smoke.

The same concept as above but at a larger scale in The Return of the King.

I never noticed this before, but atmospheric haze god rays themselves can be used for parallax. They also twinkle in value to show cloud movement.
