About
Analysis 1: Introduction
From the very first scene, Cinderella shows how it uses color to support story. The scene begins with Cinderella and her father outside on a bright, sunny day with her step-family inside. The film then fades from a rainy window to Cinderella and her step-family inside together sans her father in a darkly lit scene.
The rainy window shot supports the established color rules of the scene: Fading warm light outside representing Cinderella’s past, cold blue and purple inside representing her new, tragic servitude.
Analysis 2: Contrast and Shared Language
In the scene where Cinderella is punished by her step-mother, the two are separated by color so the audience can clearly read who is in the moral right for this argument.
