Coloring: Struzan part 3
The Struzan coloring studies continue! I was curious about learning more about how Struzan builds his glow that ties a composition together. For example, when Struzan has a bright light/sun in a poster, what color is it, and how does he fade it off into the composition?
Below, I came to one answer. The brightest part of the glow is the key light color (the color of the character’s key light). And the outer glow on bright glow is the complimentary color (the color of the shadows on the characters, usually a cooler color").
Below, we see the lower sun is yellow (same color and the key light on the characters). And the fade from the yellow glow in the composition is purple (the color of the shadows on the characters).

We can see the same trend below from Struzan. The main glow is a warm yellow. And it fades to black through a blue (the same color as the shadows in the composition).
Below, we see a twist to the formula. The characters have shadows that are similar colors to the key light colors. So the center flare/light is blue and fades into a glow that is the color of the key light/shadow:
