INTEGRATION: HEAT HAZE

This study was originally about heat haze and mirages used to show heat and add subtle background movement, but as I learned more, I came across this effect in cold climates/seasons. Heat haze is not limited to warm weather, and can occur when the sun is out:

What I found even more surprising is that mirages can appear over ice and snow. Examples from Norway:
