VARIATION: LIGHITNG BREAKUP
This study on lighting breakup variation will go over a concept I learned at work last year: Visual interest can be added by breaking up lighting as a character moves from point A to point B. The concept is somewhat related to Emphasizing Motion, but this technique is more about making the lighting less constant so that that even basic blocking of a character walking across a room can feel more interesting.
In the examples below from Blade Runner and The Last Crusade, characters pass through shadow as they move to point B.
The concept can be taken further by introducing different lighting as the character moves to point B.
