Visual Interest: Visualizing inside and Outside

Continuing my anime study my friend inspired me to do, I came across something i didn’t expect to see. Let’s start by looking at a scene from Pacific Rim: Uprising. The characters are visually shown to be connected to the giant robot with cross-cutting and matches on action:

What surprised me by watching anime was how shots from the Gundam franchise visually connect drivers and robot. In the shots below, whenever there are shots of the drivers, we can see the exterior which gives the shot movement and energy. But most importantly, it gives the viewer a stronger visual connection of the driver to the robot:

This can be further exaggerated by having an x-ray view without cross-cutting:

What I also find visually interesting in the Gundam franchise are the transitions from driver to the robot. Even though the driver is a fraction of the size of the robot, the transition below connects driver to robot in a cut that makes sense.
